As we head into the month of October, it’s interesting to note that two of the worst stock market crashes in history during this month. Of course, we had the 1929 Wall Street crash that kicked off the Great Depression, and there was also the Black Monday stock market crash in 1987.

As Peter Schiff noted in his latest podcast, given that stock market valuations are higher today then they were at those prior peaks, you would think there would be more concern about the possibility of another October surprise. But there seems to be very little worry out there. Nevertheless, Peter raised an interesting question, could the twin deficits in trade and the federal budget portend another October crash?

In a recent podcast, Peter Schiff talked about the “Trump tariff put” – this idea that the president will be able to call off the trade war to rescue the market should it start to fall. Peter called that idea nonsense.

It is the type of wishful thinking, the type of just ignoring all of the bad news, whistling past the graveyard, the type of mentality that you have in a bull market where everything is good news and there is nothing to worry about.”

In his most recent podcast, Peter tackled another similar myth – that a divided government will be bullish for the market.

The Dow Jones pushed into record-high territory again late last week. As Peter Schiff pointed out in his latest podcast, Pres. Trump was out there pointing out the record run on Wall Street and claiming responsibility for this bull market. Just turn on Fox News and hardly a segment will go by that somebody isn’t reminding you about how great the economy is. Peter said it reminds him how people were talking up George W. Bush before the Great Recession.

The Nasdaq had the biggest gain last month since the year 2000.

In his most recent podcast, Peter Schiff reminds us what happened right after that 2000 peak.

The Nasdaq – it declined approximately 80% from peak to trough. So, the fact that we haven’t had a month this strong since 2000 should give people pause.”

We are now officially in the longest bull market in US stock market history. Yesterday took out the record set in the 1990s. As Peter Schiff pointed out in his most recent podcast, the old record run ended in 2000.

And we all know how badly it ended. It ended with a 50% collapse, an 80% collapse in the Nasdaq, and the Federal Reserve had to slash interest rates to 1% and inflate a housing bubble in order to prop the market back up.”

Peter said he believes this bull market will meet a similar if not worse fate.

The bulls are running down Wall Street, but are bears lurking just around the corner? The mainstream doesn’t think so, but Peter Schiff does.

The Dow Jones climbed nearly 400 points Thursday after the Chinese announced a willingness to resume trade talks with the United States. No agenda was set, but the mere prospect of progress injected a shot of optimism in the market. Walmart also helped drive the surge, rising 10% after it beat earnings expectations.

In his most recent podcast, Peter asked the obvious question: why did the slimmest hope that we could see some resolution in the trade war give the stock market such a big bounce? It’s not like the market tanked because of the trade spat. In fact, everybody expects America to win. It’s the Chinese market that has been killed because of the trade war. It didn’t rally at all based on the prospect of talks
