The Glories of Socialism in Venezuela: The Sound of Hungry Stomachs (Video)

  by    8   1

In the United States, Bernie Sanders has built a political movement selling the glories of Democratic Socialism. Young Americans eager for the handouts promised by Sanders have flocked to the Vermont Senator in droves.

Meanwhile, Venezuelans labor under the realities of Bernie’s economic vision.

VICE News put together a short video showing the realities of life in the socialist utopia.

Even those with cash are finding it hard to find food. Manuel Guevara wanders through grocery stores hoping to find something to eat.

Whenever I have free time, I pass by a supermarket, and I always go in to see what’s available because sometimes you find rare products, like cornflakes. Or sometimes you find nothing.”

Guevara described a trip to the grocery as a 3-hour ordeal, just to buy a few things. In his recent trip, he bought a papaya, bananas, and a bell pepper. It cost him 1,600 bolivars.

I won’t say it’ cheap, but that is what was left. There was not much else there.”

Local committees of the socialist party know as CLAP run a food distribution program. Angelina Garcia got a “solidarity bag” of food from the CLAP with a carton of milk, some beans, a bottle of cooking oil, corn flour, rice, and a bottle of guava juice. In order to get the single bag of food, she had to put her name on a list. Then the party checked her family, her assets, and the number of rooms and bathrooms in the house. Three weeks later, she got her single bag of food.

It has to last her a month.

Not everybody can get food from CLAP. You have to be a member of the socialist party to qualify. Others are left to scrounge for whatever they can get. An unidentified man held up a bag of frozen fish heads.

This is what we’re eating because meat and chicken are only eaten by the socialists…The ‘CLAP’ that we’re living in is the sound of our hungry stomachs.”

Gold hit a new all-time nominal high, surpassing the previous record set in December of the previous year. the evils of socialism and socialists are like a plague, it just keeps spreading, and only abates when the infected die. I learned about the horrors of the USSR in church when I was an young teenager, the tortures of the Christians that were common in the 1970s. Later I went round asking what does ‘USSR’ mean? No-one could tell, or no-one would. I looked it up in my big Chambers dictionary: ‘Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics’ – then I knew my enemy, and it has proved a good rule of thumb to this day, socialists and socialism are a plague on the face of the earth.

I don’t believe there are very many true socialists in the world. Most people called socialists are actually fascists, who worship govt and look to govt as the solution to all problems.

  4. john page says:

I agree with Peter most times……..but not this time !
Socialist or fascist are you all nuts ….why look at a failed economy. In Canada we have had universal healthcare for 60 years we take care of our people…….rich or poor health is basic. No wonder your cities are so dangerous , shootings and murders are part of your society. If you HAVE then your fine if you HAVE NOT then that’s to bad………….DUMB !!!!

  5. john page says:

By the way…..Peter talks about the US dollar failing, what happens then after you loose your job with benefits….are you all going to work at Wallmart. Armed to the teeth in order to protect your last can of tuna.
If Peter is right……….it won’t be pretty in the US of A

  6. Kevin Beck says:

I would prefer that all the Socialist supporters of Bernie Sanders take a tour of Venezuela and meet face-to-face with the masses of the nation. Let them see how “fair” the policies of this failed nation really are. And if that’s what they want, they can stay there. There’s absolutely no reason to have those Socialists return and attempt to inflict that damage upon America.

  7. Jack Mudry says:

There are many successful and prosperous nations which which are called “democratic socialist”, in fact many of them have higher standards of living than the US ! There are numerous reasons for the current situation in Venezuela but most of the good ol’boys who read this column aren’t interested in knowing details; they just want to beat their chests and claim that all government is bad ! They don’t need any help because they’re all “self-made men”. HOGWASH !!
