The Silver Institute has released its October issue of Silver News. Although individual mints, especially the US Mint, have gone to allocations in past years, most recently when American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins sold out in July of this year, restriction from multiple mints at the same time is unprecedented and illustrates considerable tightness in the current global silver coin business.”

Worldwide, silver bullion coin sales reached an all-time high of 32.9 million in the third quarter of this year, according to GFMS Thomson Reuters data.

Silver News also features some exciting technological developments involving silver and important news for investors including:

  • An Atlanta-based company has developed a silver embedded keyboard that features antimicrobial protection and can be washed in dishwater.
  • The market for silver powder and flakes is expected to see double-digit growth in the next 10 years.
  • Researchers have developed a silver-based sensor that can detect the early stages of tuberculosis.
  • Silver recycling volume is forecast to stagnate over the next three years.
  • The 2015 Silver Industrial Conference Highlighted the fast-growing industrial demand for silver.

All good news for investors. I’d add, watch doctor copper prices going forward because of Chile. Chile is a huge miner of copper with silver a monster byproduct asset. Should copper prices drop enough they’ll cut mining output but by doing that they’ll also cut a huge silver resource as well. If we see a significant reduction in supply as well as increase in both industrial and collector/investor demand, perhaps…..perhaps we’ll se an increase in price. Of course all the bankers have to do then is stockpile copper…. Is a copper etf in the works I wonder?
