Total silver supply is forecast to fall to 1,014.4 million ounces in 2015, down 3% from the previous year. At the same time, silver bullion coin sales reached a fresh record high in the third quarter of this year, totaling 32.9 million ounces, and were up 95% year-on-year for the quarter, according to the recent press release Interim Silver Market Review, which included provisional supply and demand forecasts for 2015.”

Flat mine production and a 5% dip in scrap silver returns are driving the declining silver supply, according to the report.

The December issue of Silver News also features some interesting technological developments involving silver and some important information for investors, including:

  • Researchers in Germany have developed a silver-based coating that helps prevent dental implant failures.
  • A newly developed ceramic and silver tablet cheaply and easily purifies water.
  • China has ended its ban on imports of silver concentrate ore and refined concentrates.
  • Almost 1,500 backers of Y Athletics’ SilverAir Odorless Crew Sock pledged $104,069 in a Kickstarter campaign to help produce its silver-laced socks.
  • Researchers at Rice University are developing a method for building full-color displays using gold nanoparticles covered by silver and silver compounds that change hues in response to electrical current.

Finally, this issue of Silver News features an in-depth interview with silver mining executive Courtney Lynn and an interesting feature on White House silverware.
