Fun on Friday: Golden Music for Your Ears
Apple recently announced its new iPhone 10 to much hoopla. It will feature a retina display, increased storage and RAM, and enhanced facial recognition (which is either real cool or incredibly creepy, depending on your point of view.)
Of course, this will all come with a pretty hefty price tag of around $1,000. A lot of people were taken aback by the cost of the new Apple gadget. On the other hand, there are apparently at least a few people out there who think that isn’t nearly enough. I mean, who wants a plain old, boring $1,000 iPhone 10 when, for a mere $69,995, you can walk around with the solid gold Lux iPhone X Ingot pressed against your ear?
The description touts the phone as “a very rare specimen.” Specimen seems like an odd word to use. It makes me think of something growing in a petri dish. But then again, what do I know about marketing $70,000 phones? Anyway, it features 250 grams of 22 carat gold with a mirror polished back surface. Customization is encouraged.
And if you’re going to own a gold phone, accessorization is a must. Don’t worry. The Lux Airpods (wireless ear buds) are made from two layers of 24 carat gold and encrusted with diamonds. According to the company, “The Lux Airpods are a miracle of science. The modifications required to make these possible is basically rocket science.” Sorry. Even at $4,995 these earbuds do not come with an actual rocket. But you can get a version made from platinum.
Brikk, an LA based company, manufactures this golden ear candy. It’s tagline is “Opulence Defined.”
Yup. Pretty much.
The company offers some other iPhone options if you’re a cheapskate and $70K feels a little too steep. The Lux iPhone X Deluxe Collection features 24 carat yellow gold cases encrusted with various precious stones, including diamonds. Prices range from $12,995 to $21,995.
While you’re at it, you might want to go ahead and grab the Lux Buddy Belt Dog harness while your perusing the company website.
“The Lux dog harness is made of premium grade black stingray leather with an under layer of ultra soft lamb skin. The hardware is plated in 24k yellow gold and has over one carat of color de clarity VVS natural conflict free diamonds.”
Prices range from $6,995 to $9,995. Yes. I did say dog harness. And yes, it does seem pretty pricey. The website description doesn’t indicate whether you could maybe put it on your kid. But what are you complaining about? You just plunked down $70,000 for a phone.
I’m not going to lie. The phones look pretty sharp. Who doesn’t want to walk around holding gold in their hands? But this would be a problem for me. I’m really bad about leaving my phone lying around. I am all-too familiar with that feeling of panic when I realize, “Oh crap, I left my phone on the restaurant table.” Can you imagine the panic level you’d hit if you left your $70,000 phone on the restaurant table? I’d have to have Xanax just to get through the day carrying a solid gold phone. And what if you dropped it in the toilet?
No. A gold phone is not for me.
But of course, that doesn’t mean I’m not ever going to buy gold. After all, gold is valuable. That’s why a company can up the price of a phone by 6900% simply by making it out of the yellow metal. I’m just going to keep in on the more practical side. You can easily invest in gold and enjoy the wealth it affords without worrying about where you left your phone.
